Highlights from the Q1 2025 Report:
- Prolonged Decline in Sector Performance: The Ctrack TFI declined for eight consecutive months, reaching an index level of 112.8 in January 2025 — the lowest since December 2022. This extended decline resembles the strain experienced during the Covid-19 pandemic when the economy slipped into a deep recession.
- Year-on-Year and Monthly Declines: At this level, the index is 5.0% lower than a year earlier and down 10.1% from the peak of 126.5 in May 2024, highlighting a significant downturn in the latter months of 2024.
- Broad-Based Weakness: The logistics sector’s underperformance throughout 2024 has been widespread, resulting in the sector detracting from overall economic growth — a notable shift, as the transport sector has often outperformed the broader economy in the past.
